BHGR serves as outside environmental counsel to Denver Metro Wastewater, which serves 1.7 million people, and as outside water quality counsel to Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, the largest trans-mountain diverter and water supplier to 13 municipalities and nearly 700,000 irrigated acres in northeast Colorado.

BHGR also serves as special water counsel to municipalities, water providers, and conservancy districts.

Established in California more than 125 years ago, BB&K’s water law and government affairs practice is deeply intertwined with the evolution of water supply and quality in the arid West. In the 1930s and 40s, the firm was instrumental in the development of California’s State Water Project. Later, a BB&K attorney served as a United States Supreme Court special master for an interstate water dispute between Kansas and Colorado. More recently, we helped shape California’s Proposition 1, which authorized issuance of more than $11 billion in bonds to overhaul California’s water system, and were involved in drafting California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).
From environmental issues to water rights, water quality, wastewater recycling, sewage treatment, stormwater and solid waste management systems to infrastructure development, permitting, construction and finance, BB&K professionals are experienced in handling the issues that Western water agencies face. GEI Consultants (GEI), founded in 1970, is a privately-owned, multidisciplinary engineering, environmental, and planning firm. GEI has an established, preeminent Ecological and Environmental Planning Practice with staff that are recognized experts in the evaluation of water quality and ecological standards. Accordingly, GEI is frequently retained by clients, including litigation attorneys, to technically review, validate, re-test or respond to environmental investigation data and reports prepared by others. We have provided consultation and expert testimony and litigation support for government agencies, industry, mining and energy clients across the United States for over 30 years.

Our Ecological and Environmental Planning Practice routinely develops water quality and site-specific standards, collects or reviews fisheries, macroinvertebrate and habitat data, and performs ecological risk assessments.
